Both this years COD and BF make me feel so fucking hopeless for gaming. The amount of resources that are being poured into making mediocre experiences that just want your money is depressing. The pervasive influence of microtransactions into EVERY single design decision, from gameplay to art-style is heart wrenching.
The whole trend of not having soldiers but rather CHARACTERS with their own "personalities" and quirks makes me sick honestly, it's all literally so they can sell you cosmetics for them. 2042, I say only the number cause it can hardly be called BF in most aspects, removes the CLASS system from the game in favor of the specialist crap. COD Vanguard literally rewrites history present a diverse cast of characters for you to select and pay money dessing up, and that's not even getting into the campaign which...honestly it's an insult to history.
I remember being a kid, playing medal of honor allied assault for the first time, the D-Day level and asking my dad "wow did they really have to go forwards like that under machine gun fire?" and my dad said yea, it probably looked very similar to this (I wasn't yet allowed to watch Saving Private Ryan)
My own son was born a year ago, when and if he likes games and plays shit like this, just what do I tell him? "No son, you see, this is fiction. They don't say anywhere that it is, because that would break the illusion, and would make it less likely that you ask me for money for skins on your birthday"
COD will probably "win" (meaning $$$) because Warzone is an established thing that isn't going away any time soon, but really I just wish both games crash.
All of this is without even getting into the gameplay which seems to be steadily getting worse and worse over the years, for both franchises (only saving grace being MW2019 really) and the absolute state of disarray that these triple A games release on a lot of the times.
And yea, I know that is isn't all doom and gloom and there's many great options if you want to play authentic games, like Hell let loose, Squad, Insurgency and the like. But those are hardcore shooters that can be super stressful and require like a whole mood to play them (at least in my case) also these games tend to not have any sort of narrative campaign.
Anyway, sorry for the rant, I just feel like an old man yelling at clouds and wanted to see if anyone wanted to join.
