The Great American Novel is a term for a canonical novel that generally embodies and examines the essence and character of America. The novel doesn’t need to be necessarily patriotic or even take place in America. Books like Moby Dick, The Great Gatsby, and Blood Meridian are often considered candidates for the title of “the great American novel.” So this makes me wonder, what could be considered “the great American video game?” Keep in mind the game does not need to be overtly patriotic, made by an American company, or even take place in America.
