TIL: Universal sued Nintendo in 1982 for infringing on their King Kong copyright with Donkey Kong, but were thwarted by the fact that Universal itself had proven King Kong to be in the public domain years prior. Nintendo honored their American lawyer, John Kirby, by naming a character after him.
