you know what game i want, one where i play as a nazi

to preface this, i want to play spec-ops the line as a member of the Wehrmacht with a massive dash of halo:reach . I want to fight in all the massive pivotal battles against the allies on the German side. Stalingrad, battle of Britain, allemagne, Dunkirk, hell a dash of french resistance and occupation of Poland. i want to play human beings walking around with a swastika on their arm and feeling the strange concept of fighting for an increasingly evil regime (to the eyes of the German characters).

I want to start off as some naive fucking farm boy listening to fatherland propaganda with a big hole in his heart as he watches his friends slowly stop looking like his friends or even human beings he wants to associate with. being some young ruffian beating up some communist-sympathizers in the streets with a grin on his face for the fighting and then some hollowed eyed stare as someone dressed like him guns down some young Jewish women. i want you to march around with a bunch of banterific characters who die off throughout the game and those surviving are seemingly damaged people. i also want you to stare in the face characters who outrank and give you missions and wonder at the nature of choice Ala bio-shock when screamed at by your commander to do terrible things.

i want the early missions in the game to be light and airy as you run roughshod over the enemy every moment filled with witty banter and enemies being so easy to fight and kill the early invasions play the role of the tutorial. This game being from the eyes of the German soldier every moment of the game is filled with optimism, confidence and above all that not only will they conquer the world but that it will all be over by Christmas.

and then the missions start getting darker (palette shift as well) you have less ammo, cut scenes get more uncomfortable, the enemies have more dialogue and its not half as comical. moments of peace between set-pieces where civilian in occupied territories look at your character with fear and walk away quickly or hide. you as the player if only through cut-scenes and qtes participate in events you the player are uncomfortable with. I especially like the idea of say a firing squad scene were it asks you to shoot and participate in the scene but your character doesn't move and the event occurs as if the qtes flashing on the screen doesn't do anything.

and then the game starts feeling like halo reach. where it starts seeming like the ending is a lot more inevitable. where the battle of Stalingrad shifts to some kind of survival adventure game if only for a mission or two.

also because i like flying missions shifting to the luftwaffe. your shooting at British planes and bombing cities. and throughout it all your character is looking down on green fields and row-houses wondering how he got here.

desert fighting with Rommel. not because i really think it would be super interesting but the characters present would be more easily known to an american audience. playing up the whole Saladin and Richard the lion-heart thing, Rommel and Patton had. making Rommel the one same man if only due to name recognition.

and most definitly for the end i want it to end with the various characters you play sitting in some rubble alone looking around at the suffering and wondering what it was all for before surrendering.

i want to play a war game where you lose, and it makes it hurt, and above all give a strange new look at the well trodden path of the world war 2 game.
